Volunteer with Uplift
Higher Education Reality Operation (HERO)
Uplift's greatest volunteer need is for HERO mentors with the Road to College program. HERO mentors work with our juniors and seniors to help guide them through their journey preparing for college, applying to schools and obtaining scholarships to finance their education. We need approximately 300 HERO mentors for the 2011-12 school year.
What is involved in being a HERO mentor?
- Submit to a background check (required for all Uplift volunteers).
- Attend an in-person training session. We host several training sessions at each Uplift campus, or we can come to your company/organization if you have 10 or more mentors.
- Attend at least four HERO special events with your student each year to help them with specific activities such as resume development, essay writing, career development or community service projects.
- Visit with your student at least once a month to work through monthly college prep goals (e.g., proofread college and scholarship applications, answer questions about college selection and future careers, etc.).
- Attend our College Signing Day and graduation during the spring of your student’s senior year.
- Stay connected to the HERO program on Facebook and through its monthly e-newsletter.
