Upper School Director
Heather Pereira graduated suma cum laude from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French, minor in history in 2002. She also completed a Master of Arts degree in Modern Languages with emphasis on French Language and Culture at UTA in 2007. While at UTA, Ms. Pereira participated in two study abroad programs in Paris, France and was a member of various student organizations such as La Societe Francophone, Pi Delta Phi National French Honor Society (for which she served as President in 2007), Phi Beta Delta Honor Society of International Scholars, Sigma Tau Delta International English Honour Society, and Phi Kappa Phi. Her areas of interest include le conte provencal, the function of memory in the biography, and foreign language teaching methodology.
Ms. Pereira began her teaching career in Dijon, France where she taught English in a French high school through a program with the French Embassy. Upon returning to the US, Ms. Pereira began teaching at North Hills where she taught French from 2003 - 2012, earning the honor of Upper School Teacher of the Year in 2008. Ms. Pereira has also served as the World Languages Department Chair at North Hills, as a consultant for the Dallas Museum of Art's education department, as a lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages at UTA, and is currently an examiner for IB DP French Language B exams.
In her previous role as Dean of Instruction, Ms. Pereira coordinated the Advanced Placement and IB Diploma Programs on the NHP campus and supported teachers in their instructional practices. Ms. Pereira has served as Upper School Director since 2014.
