After considerable reflection and deliberation, Uplift Education will be putting into effect a temporary mask requirement for all Uplift Education schools effective Monday, August 30, 2021. Uplift Dallas County schools already fell under the county-wide mask mandate which was upheld in a legal hearing earlier this week. This mask requirement will apply to all staff and scholars in all grades, Pre-K-12, and will be in effect through September 30, 2021.
The purpose for requiring masks is this: the number of Uplift scholars with a positive COVID-19 test result continues to rise relative to last year as the Delta variant appears to be more contagious in children. We have seen an increase in our cases in our Tarrant County schools where masks were only “strongly encouraged,” and no mask requirement was in place. Significantly, I am deeply saddened to report that we have had two reported cases of scholars in 2nd grade and younger in Fort Worth requiring hospitalization in the ICU.
