Picante Onion Soup

1/4 c butter
3 cups thinly sliced onion
1 clove minced garlic
2 c tomato juice (I used V-8)
32 ounces broth (I used beef)
1/2 c picante sauce (I used Pace medium)
 
Melt butter & add onions & garlic, cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onions are tender & slightly transparent.  Add remaining ingredients, bring to a full boil, stirring constantly.  Reduce heat & allow to simmer on low for 30 minutes.
